The family of Betty Jean McClanahan Denny, 89, of Riverside Nursing and Rehab (formerly of 611 Greenwich Circle) announces her passing from this earthly life on September 13, 2023. She was born on February 14,1934 to Willie Mae Murphy McClanahan and Amos Daniel McClanahan. She had 2 siblings who predeceased her. Dorothy M. Newman and Alfred E. McClanahan. She attended and graduated from Danville Public Schools.
On April 11,1953 Jean married Jack T. Denny. They were happily married for 63 years before his passing. From that marriage they were blessed with two daughters whom they cherished. Sharon E. Denny deceased and Deborah M. McDaniel, survivor. She also raised her niece, Brenda N. Davis as a third daughter. Jean is also survived by Two grandchildren, Jamie M. Bachman (Eric) of Jacksonville, Florida, and Jerry McDaniel (Samantha) of Knoxville, Tennessee. Two great grandchildren Declan and Mackenzie McDaniel. She is survived by many nieces and nephews of whom she cared deeply.
Jean loved to travel and covered most of the US and Canada during her travels. Her main love was working with children. She devoted many years to working with children as a teacher assistant in Danville Public Schools. Many years were spent working with the children at church. She was a member of Grace UMC when it merged within Design UMC who became Grace Design UMC. Recently name changed to Grace Design Community Church where she retained membership until death. During these years was Sunday School Youth leader, teacher, Bible School teacher, and Girl Scout leader before her health declined. She was also working with various committees within the church.
She will be greatly missed by family and friends but has gained her heavenly goal.
A funeral service Will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Grace-Design Community Church with the Reverend Winston Crichlow. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park.
