Betty Jane Coleman, 68, widow of Charles W. Coleman, Jr., transitioned to her heavenly home on Saturday, April 17, 2021. She was born on November 8, 1952, a daughter of the late Theodore Harry Cannaday and Betty Ruth Warner Hendricks. Betty was employed by Union Hall Elementary School in Chatham as a nurse, where she loved and took great care of all her babies that she interacted with throughout the years. She loved taking care of and helping others. She especially enjoyed her time spent with her family. Betty always put her family before herself and loved spending time with her grandchildren. Betty was always ready to travel to the beach or to find a festival, especially beach music and craft festivals. She also enjoyed shopping. Betty is survived by her children, Shannon Rakes Slade (Heath), Christopher Wayne Rakes (Tammy) and their father, Phil Rakes, Chris Coleman (Sally), Jenny Dix (Scott), and Jacquie Marshall (Jerry); eight grandchildren, Carleigh Coleman Adkins (Ottoway), Austin Gregory, Evan Dix, Lillie Dix, Perry White, Parker White, Cameron Marshall, and Carlie Marshall; one great-grandchild, Luca Cole Adkins; one grand dog, Berkley Alexander; three sisters, Deborah Ibargo, Francine Arrington (Tony), and JoAnne Glass (Anthony); two brothers, Frank Wood, Jr. (Brandy) and Ted Cannaday; seven step-brothers; one step-sister; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and two fur babies, Maggie Mae and Bella. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Townes Funeral Home. A prayer service will start at 7:00 p.m. for a time of shared remembrances. At other times the family will be at Betty’s residence, 426 Rosemary Lane, Danville, VA 24541. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
