Bette graduated from GWHS. She then completed an associate degree and later graduated from Averett University when her children were in elementary school. Studying at the kitchen table together was a fond memory for all. She remained a stay-at-home Mom until her children went to middle school. She often quoted that raising good, kind, ethical, responsible human beings – is the biggest job a parent can embark upon. Bette had a passion for life and a thirst for learning new things. At the age of forty, when her children were older, she found her calling as a social worker and retired after thirty years as the Supervisor of Adult Protective Services at Danville Department of Social Services. Bette loved to travel in and out of the country, but her favorite places were Atlantic Beach, NC, and Chimney Rock, NC. Bette was a past president of the Junior Wednesday Club, former member of the Wednesday Club and past president of the Children’s Theater. She was of the Baptist Faith.
