View Bessie Owen Memorial Video Bessie Jones Owen, widow of Richard Smith Owen, passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at Riverside Health and Rehabilitation Center, where she was a resident for four years. Born in Chatham, she was a daughter of the late John Coleman and Nellie Herndon Jones. She was married on January 10, 1942 to the late Richard Smith Owen by Judge Charles M. Pace. Bessie’s greatest joy was her family, whom she loved with all her heart. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She was a former member of Timberlake Women’s Club as well as Main Street United Methodist Church. She retired from Belk Leggett. She is survived by a son Richard Frederick “Freddy” Owen, and wife, Debby; a daughter, Barbara Owen Yeatts Owens, and husband, Ronald; three grandchildren, Alexander Yeatts, Jessica Yeatts, and Christopher Yeatts, and wife, Danielle; and two great grandchildren, Tara and Luna. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters; and a former son-in-law, Donald R. Yeatts. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 19, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Trinity United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 1:45 PM at the church and at other times at the residence of Freddy Owen. Burial will follow in Highland Burial Park.
