Mrs. Bessie Lee Owen Dunn, of 154 Fairmont Circle, Danville, departed her life on September 21, 2013. She was born in Boydton, Virginia, Mecklenburg County on December 13, 1920, a daughter of the late James Thomas(Tom) Owen and Maude Harrison (Polly) Cooper Owen. She was educated in Mecklenburg County and attended Boyd's Business School in Washington, D. C. On March 16, 1942, she married John Letcher (Jack) Dunn who predeceased her on June 1, 1995 after 53 wonderful years of marriage. During World War II, they lived in Newport, Rhode Island, and then moved to Washington, D.C. where she was manager of The Navy Exchange and was a member of the Friendship Force in Arlington. They later moved to Fairfax County, Virginia, where she worked for 28 years at the Bank of America in Falls Church, first as a cashier and then as assistant manager. After retiring she and Jack traveled throughout most of the United States and many foreign countries before moving to Danville in 1984. Mrs. Dunn was an avid gardener and collected rare flowers. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by three sisters, Alice O. Anderson, Mary O. Hill and Nellie O. Reed; and three brothers, Andrew Thomas Owen, James Edward Owen, and John Robert Owen. She is survived by one sister, Willie Edna Owen Hosley, of Danville and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Townes Memorial Chapel with the Reverend James Mathieson officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends at Townes Funeral Home on Monday, September 23, 2013 from 7:00 to 8:30 pm and at other times at the home, 154 Fairmont Circle in Windsor Heights
