Barbara Haynes Taylor, 77, of Danville, Va., passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2019, at her home, following a long illness and under the care of her son and Inez Grant. Born on July 4, 1941, in Danville, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Willard Haynes and Gracie Mae Burke Haynes. She was married to the late Joseph Swanson Taylor. She was a member of West Main Baptist Church. In her early years, she worked as a waitress and seamstress. Later, she joined her husband as a business owner of Ballou Park Gulf, which later became Joe Taylor’s Chevron. Following that, she worked at Ballou Park Tire & Auto, Old Dutch Supermarket, and did some part-time work at Giles Flowerland. She was an avid bowler. She was a Danville Women’s Bowling Association Hall of Fame member and a certified youth bowling coach. She was also a member of Business and Professional Women’s Club. She is survived by four children, Stephen Taylor of Danville, Stephanie Moore (Bobby) of Atlanta, Ga., Keenan Burton (Faye) of Danville, Barbara Williams (Mike) of Richmond, Va.; step-son Joe Allen Taylor (Ruth) of Louisville, Ky.; granddaughter Kathryn Moore of Atlanta, Ga., two grandsons, Josh Williams (Susan) of Italy and Daniel Williams of Richmond, Va.; four step-grandchildren, Laura Taylor of Louisville, Ky., Anne Taylor of St. Augustine, Fl., Ben Taylor (Heather) of Tucson, Az., John Taylor (Mandy) of Louisville, Ky.; two step-great grandchildren, Drew Taylor of Roanoke, Va. and Evie Taylor of Tucson, Az.; three sisters, Joyce Doss of Danville, Delores Pickeral (Sherrill) of Danville, Jeannie Chrisman (Billy) of Greensboro, N.C.; and several close aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, May 17, 2019, at 2 p.m. at Townes Memorial Chapel, 215 West Main Street, with Rev. Bruce Wilson. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends at Townes prior to the service, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., and at other times at the residence, 610 Mt. Cross Rd. Apt E2.
