Barbara Fisher 73 of Danville, VA died Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at DRMC. She was born Saturday, May 10, 1941 to LD and Margaret Cox Lanius of St. Louis, Missouri. Barbara was predeceased by her husband Robert G. Fisher, both parents and step mother Rose Mary Lanius. Barbara is survived by her Daughters, Melinda K. Fisher and Heather F. Vipperman and husband Chuck of Danville; Grandchildren,Hannah Claire Vipperman and Charles Robert Vipperman; Siblings, Martha L. Adamson (Dr. Dennis Adamson) of Pleasant Grove, UT, Gerald D. Lanius (Patsy) of Stonewall, LA, Daniel L. Lanius (Kathy) of Port Deposit, MD, Patrick H. Lanius of North Myrtle Beach, SC, Theresa L. Barton of Bethesda, MD and Joyce L. Hayes (Kerry) of Venice Beach, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews and friends she loved dearly. Barbara graduated from Maplewood Richmond Heights High School, St. Louis in 1958 and began work with a finance company. Barbara married Robert G. Fisher of St. Louis June 20, 1964. They moved to Louisville, KY before settling in Danville in 1971. In Danville she worked in the medical field for Dr. John B. Eggleston, Drs. Charles C. Freed and C. Thomas Harvey and in the Virginia State Reimbursement Office at SVMHI where she retired in 2002. Barbara was an active member of First Baptist Church Danville where she served as a teacher in the 4 & 5's class, member of the Board of Deaconesses and the Hope Circle. At the time of her death she was a member of the Philathea Sunday School Class and the Young at Heart Group of Third Avenue Church. Barbara was also a member of the former Sandy Shores Women's Club. With a heart for missions, Barbara spent her time finding ways to bring joy to others. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church with the Reverend John Carroll and the Reverend Angela Zimmerman officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends at Townes Funeral Home on Friday, March 20, 2015 from 7 to 8 P.M. and at other times will be at the residence, 3277 Drury Lane. Due to allergies, in lieu of food or flowers make a donation to the First Baptist Church Missions Offering in her memory. Townes Funeral Home and Crematory, 215 West Main Street is serving the Fisher family.
