Barbara Cassada

August 19, 1930 — April 29, 2021

Barbara Holt Cassada of 216 Ripley Drive, Danville, VA, died peacefully at home on Thursday, April 29, 2021. Barbara touched the lives of many people for over 90 years. She was born in Danville on August 19, 1930 and was the daughter of the late Anna & Russell Holt. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband of 60 years, Newton Thomas (Junior) Cassada and an infant son, Richard Thomas Cassada. Those left to cherish her memory are; her son, Steve and her daughter-in-law, Ann Cassada, her precious grandchildren and their spouses, Hannah (Brandon) Bennett and Holt (Sarah) Cassada, her great grandson Newton Royce Bennett, her sister Jane DiBlasi, of Kingsland, GA, brother-in-law Boisseau (Ramona) Cassada, Boyd "Butch" (Winnie) Cassada, both of Danville, and her sister-in-law Carolyn Owen of Mt. Holley, NC. She was Aunt Bobbie to many beloved nieces and nephews. Barbara retired from Dan River Mills after working for 30 years, primarily in the Benefits and Insurance Department, but her most cherished job was being Nannie to her grandchildren and great grandson. Barbara was a woman of grace and beauty, who demonstrated kindness and love to all encounted. She was an active member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church and was especially blessed by her Sunday School class, the Able Servants Class. She also supported her husband as he and a group of Korean veterans worked to establish the Veterans Memorial at Dan Daniel Memorial Park. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, May 2nd, 2021 at 3:00pm at Danville Memorial Gardens with Pastor Marshall Key officiating. Visitation will be immediately following the service. The family will also receive guests at the home of her son, Steve Cassada, at 2524 Ridge Road Danville, VA. The family owes a great debt of gratitude to her caregivers, Denise (Neecie) Holloway, Peggy Anderson, Teresa Chandler, and Virginia Hyler. They were truly a blessing to Barbara and her family. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Mount Hermon Volunteer Fire Department, 4268 Franklin Turnpike, Danville VA 24540.
