Barbara Cannon

March 5, 1918 — January 19, 2017

Barbara Motley Cannon, age 98 formerly of 681 Lee Street and now of 600 Main Street died on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Duke Raleigh Hospital after a decline in health of a few days.                She was born in Danville on May 3, 1918, a daughter of the late Ocris Benjamin Motley and Eva Osborne Motley.                Barbara lived in Danville most of her life and was a member of Moseley Memorial United Methodist Church.  She was a retired seamstress having worked with Dan River, Inc, Saters, Haley’s, Al Newman LTD, Ann Boyer and Meredith Gravely.  She was first married to the late Earl Edward Bryant and later married Thomas Marshall Cannon who died in 1981.  Besides her parents and her husbands, she was predeceased by a brother Ocris B. (Buster) Motley.                Surviving are three sons; Earl Allen “Buddy” Bryant and his wife Shirley of Danville, Tommy Cannon of Danville and his significant other Donna Ashworth of Danville and Von Cannon and his significant other Jodi Setliff Richardson of Hermosa Beach, CA, one daughter Barbara Farmer and her husband Danny of Hurt, VA.  Also surviving are nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.                Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. from the graveside at Green Hill Cemetery with the Reverend Lee VonEime, Reverend Tommy Allen and the Reverend Lisa Nordan officiating.                The family will receive friends at Townes Funeral Home on Saturday, January 21, 2017 from 7 to 8:30 P.M.                Townes Funeral Home and Crematory, 215 West Main Street is serving the Cannon family.
