Augustus Dowdy

Mr. Augustus Swain Dowdy, Jr. of 572 Jenny Lane died Saturday, April 22, 2017 at his residence.                He was born in Danville on October 30, 1927, a son of the late Augustus S. Dowdy, Sr. and Grace Sigmon Dowdy.                Mr. Dowdy was retired from Dibrell Bros. Tobacco and was a member of Shady Oak Baptist Church in Providence, NC.  He was a twenty- five year member of Gideons International Caswell County Camp.  Mr. Dowdy was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the United States Army.                Besides his parents he was predeceased by his siblings; Darnell Dowdy, Harold Wayne Dowdy, Mary Deane Dowdy, Frances Deatherage and Nell Dowdy.                Mr. Dowdy is survived by his wife of the home; Rachel Dalton Dowdy, one daughter, Paula Lynn Dowdy Rice and her husband Randy Rice of Danville, sister, Gloria Volkstorf, two grandchildren; Zachary Rice and Hannah Rice, a number of nieces and nephews and his best friend, Robert “Dude” Crumpton.                Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2107 at 2:00 P.M. from Shady Oak Baptist Church, Providence, NC with the Reverend Kenneth Hammack officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors to be presented by the American Legion Dan River Post # 1097 and Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard.                The family will receive friends at Shady Oak Baptist Church on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 from 7 to 8:30 P.M. and at other times will be at the residence, 572 Jenny Lane.                Townes Funeral Home and Crematory, 215 West Main Street is serving the Dowdy family.
