Arlett Franklin Edwards, Jr., 99, of Ringgold, VA, passed away on Monday, June 13, 2022, at Riverside Health & Rehabilitation Center, after a brief decline in health. Born in Schoolfield, VA, on August 19, 1922, he was the son of the late Arlett Franklin Edwards and Lucy Shelton Edwards. He was married to the former Lillie Dodson for 75 years until her passing on June 27, 2021. Arlett was a graduate of Schoolfield High School and a veteran of World War II. He proudly served in Europe from 1942 to 1945 with the United States Army's 2nd General Hospital 44th Evac Hosp. He was the owner and operator of Edwards Television Sales and Services and upon retirement worked for Dan River Middle School and Ringgold Post Office until the age of 90. Arlett was a member of Kentuck Baptist Church where he had served as a choir member. He had also been a member and past commander of the American Legion Post 325. In addition to his wife and parents he was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Edwards; five sisters, Geneva Smith, Rubye Cobb, Inez Paul, Bert Coleman and Dymple Pursley; son-in-law Ed Astin. He is survived by a daughter, Pat Edwards Astin of Rocky Mount, NC; two sons, Art Edwards (Deborah) of Kernersville, NC and Joe Edwards (LaVerne) of Ringgold, VA; six grandchildren, Rainey Astin Parks (Matt) of Alexandria, VA, Rebecca Astin Morganelli (Danny) of Raleigh, NC, Robyn Astin Sarrat (Peter) of Potomac, MD, Lindsay Edwards Quick (Jamie) of Graham, NC, David Edwards (Elizabeth) of Richmond, VA and Kevin Edwards (Meghan) of Waynesboro, VA; ten great-grandchildren, Wyatt and August Parks, Nicholas Morganelli, Andy, Lauren and Abby Sarrat, Pearl Quick, Bradley Edwards, and Jack and Henry Harrison; a sister Billie Edwards Calvert; a brother-in-law, T. Neal Dodson (Linda) and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at Highland Burial Park on Monday, June 27, 2022, at 11:00am with Pastor Tim Lee officiating. Visitation will be graveside one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kentuck Baptist Church Scholarship Fund, 1845 Kentuck Church Road, Ringgold, VA. Townes Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the Edwards family.
