Anna Byrd

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Anna Hanna Byrd on October 26, 2024 in Danville, VA. She was born to the late Marion Benjamin Hanna and Josephine Hatcher Hanna on February 26, 1926.

Anna and her husband Robert met at Sumter Casket Company in South Carolina, then married April 13, 1946 before moving to Danville in 1947. They owned and operated Danville Casket Company from 1955 until 1982. She was an active member of Mt Hermon Baptist Church and historian at Shelton Presbyterian Church. She loved God, her family and her home. She was recognized as one of the neighborhood 'Moms' by the friends of her children.

She was predeceased by her husband of 47 years Robert L Byrd, daughter Bonnie Byrd Mustain, son Robert J. Byrd and her grandson Rob Byrd, as well as her brothers Marion Hanna Jr, Rufus and his wife Deanna Hanna, and son-in-law Bill Lodge.

She is survived by her dear sister, Marcella Sasser of Augusta, GA, her children Bill Byrd (Rebecca) of Pacific Grove, CA, Lila Neal, of Danville, VA and Laura Lodge of Estes Park, CO, grandchildren Rick Mustain (Kathy) of Hesperia, CA, Paul Mustain of Danville, VA, Jennifer Russell (Randy) of Lemont Furnace, PA, Lindsay Neal of Danville, VA, Michael Byrd (Vitalina) of Pacific Grove, CA, Katheryn Ellison (Michael) of Salt Lake City, UT, along with 13 great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held at Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends at Townes Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, from 11:00am until 12:00pm. A celebration of life will be planned for next spring.

The family would like to express their thanks to the caring staff of Commonwealth Assisted Living at Stratford House and a special thank you to Crystal Miller. Also, our profound gratitude to Laura Swift and Joel Fletcher of Commonwealth Hospice, for their loving support and care for our mother and family.
