Ann was born in Alamance County, NC, on August 24, 1931, and grew up in Altamahaw Ossipee, NC and in Danville, a daughter of the late James Turner Harden and the late Maie Roney Harden. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she was active for many years, expecially in the church Sunday School department. She was a graduate of Longwood College. Ann was a first grade teacher in the Danville Public Schools for 33 years and was remembered by many of her students, even in her later years. She was an excellent seamstress, avid knitter, and could be found every day on her sofa working a crossword puzzle. Ann was affectionately known as "Mama Ann" by her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Ann was predeceased by a sister, Betty Harden Hall, and her beloved cat, "Mix." Survivors include a daughter, Deborah Lockett Hallman, of the residence, a son, John William Lockett, Greensboro, NC, four grandchildren, Karen Farlow Davis (Ben) of Orangeburg, SC, William MacGregor Leighton of Danville, Kirsten Ann Hallman Barber (Alan) of Lexington, SC, Kaitlin Elizabeth Hallman of Columbia, SC, and two great-grandchildren, Annie Blair Davis, and Benjamin Davis. Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, July 7th at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Allen Thompson officiating and interment following at Highland Burial Park. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to Legacy Hospice, Danville, or First Presbyterian Church, Danville.
