Andrew Christopher “Chris” Hudson passed away on Friday July 22, 2022 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC at the age of 59. He was born on July 7, 1963 in Danville, VA as the first child of John David Hudson, Jr. and the late Arlene Kocher (Hudson) Sparrow. In addition to his father, Chris is survived by a brother John David Hudson, III and a half sister Sarah Miranda Sparrow. Also surviving is his stepmother, Linda Biggers Hudson. Special survivors include an aunt, Martha Hudson Kreszock and her husband Mick; cousins Jim Haley, Jr. and Mac Booth of Danville; and many other relatives. Chris graduated from George Washington High School completing their building trades program and then earned a Data Processing degree from Danville Community College. Before becoming disabled, he worked steadily, often holding two or even three jobs at the same time. These included a data processing position at Disston, Inc., many years with Kroger, and as a Customer Service Manager at Food Lion. Chris was an avid Duke basketball fan as well as a keen supporter of Virginia Tech football. But his primary passion was chess. He made many friends through a shared love of chess and especially enjoyed helping and coaching young chess players. He participated in several World Opens and many regional tournaments and enjoyed on-line competition with players from around the world. He was instrumental in founding the Danville Chess Club and encouraged new members. Chris had a wonderful sense of humor and truly enjoyed kidding with his friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Townes Memorial Chapel with Pastor Scott Randlett officiating. The family requests that those in attendance wear a face mask and adhere to social distancing.
