Alyce Amory Roach, age 92, departed this life on April 3, 2014 in Richmond, VA. She was born November 28, 1921 to George Washington & Alma Lockard Amory. Raised in Hampton VA, Alyce as a young bride moved to Danville, VA where she resided for over 60 years. Her husband, O. Lewis Roach, Jr., and her parents, preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter Lockie Duggins (Manfred) two sons Obie Roach (Judy), Amory Roach (Jane) her sister Gwen Cumming, three grandchildren, Alex, Beth & Danny, nieces Wendy Cumming & Anne Milligan, and nephews Bobby & George Cumming. The family wishes to thank her dear caregivers Ann Walters, Danville and Jenee Johnson, Richmond for their kindness & loving care. Alyce was a graduate of Mary Washington College. Her husband, family & faith were her avocation. She was a passionate gardener, dedicated church member, and avid sports fan who was always available to make a casserole dish when someone was ill. Alyce was a life long, active member of Mount Vernon United Methodist Church. Her civic activities included holding office in the Gabriella Garden Club, The Wednesday Club, and board membership of the Langhorne House. She was a docent of the Danville Museum and a member of the Danville Golf Club. Her charitable and volunteer work included board membership for Good News Jail & Prison Ministry, the Potato Project, and the Ladies Benevolent Society of the Danville Memorial Hospital. Among her many acts of kindness & generosity she started two scholarships one at Averett University and a second one at Mary Washington University. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 7 at 1:00PM at Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, 107 West Main Street Danville, VA followed by a service of Celebration of Life at 2:00. Following the service interment will be held at Highland Burial Park Cemetery.
