Born March 22, 1930, Alma Jo Greenberg, 85, of Danville, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on September 29, 2015. Preceded in death by her husband Dr. Milton Greenberg, and parents Dale R. and Mary Lou Price, she is survived by her brother, Raymond Dale (Solfrid) Price, her children Dr. Lisa (Bob) Plazzo, Dale (Rich) Nicholas, Susan (Frankie) Jones, grandchildren Brandy and Brian Plazzo, Mary Stewart (Patrick) Emery, Mike Jones and nephews David and Toffer McGill. Jo (as her friends knew her) graduated from George Washington High School in 1948, Averett College in 1950 and Longwood College in 1952 with a degree in elementary education. She married her high school sweetheart Mike, and followed him as he pursued his career in medicine then returned to Danville to raise their family. Jo was thoroughly engaged in her community where she served and volunteered in numerous capacities: through church where she was a lifetime member of West Main Baptist Church, as a member of the Woman's Auxiliary of Danville Regional Medical Center (then Danville Memorial Hospital), as a member of the Wednesday Club, as a member of the Danville Museum of Fine Arts, as a volunteer at the Danville Speech and Hearing Clinic, as a member of the Historic North Theatre, as a member of Alger Pugh's Foundation (later the Community Foundation of the Dan River) and as a volunteer for Remedial Reading for Adults-the last of which was one of her most rewarding endeavors. She was on the Board of Directors for Averett College and received an outstanding alumnae award from Longwood College. Her fun clubs were "The Sub Debs", the Magnolias, the Heartstrings, and her several Bridge Clubs. She was also a "Calendar" girl. She enjoyed life, was the life of the party, but she didn't like the limelight to shine on her. She would rather work behind the scenes, and enjoyed herself through the happiness that she brought to others. She was always a giver and never a taker- whether it be of her time or talents. Her hobbies included sewing, art, and invariably decorating inanimate and animated objects, most often her husband or his cars. There will be visitation on Friday, October 2 at West Main Baptist Church from 10:00 to 10:45am with the service to follow beginning at 11:00am. A private family burial will follow the service. In her honor, in lieu of flowers please consider making a contribution to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org/donate or by mail you may send a check to Alzheimer's Association P.O. Box 96011, Washington DC 20090-6011. If a local contribution is desired please make a donation to West Main Baptist Church. Townes Funeral Home, 215 West Main Street, is serving the Greenberg family.
