Algie Eanes Phelps, age 90, passed away Sunday morning, February 7, 2021 at Riverside Health Care. She was born on April 15, 1930 in Pittsylvania County, Va. a daughter of the late George L. Eanes and Rosa E. Eanes. Algie was predeceased by her first husband, Garland Ferrell Oakes on February 9, 1978 and her second husband, Lee Gwynn Phelps on October 5, 2006. She was a life member of Ferry Road Friends Church and was formerly employed as a secretary with the Danville Public Schools. Algie was also predeceased by nine brothers, Vincent, Walter, Tim, Sam, Henry, Herman Buford, Glenn and James Eanes and two sisters, Ada Holly and Essie Harville. She is survived by two sons, Jerry K. Oakes and his wife, Sarah of Chatham, Va. and Dennis L. Oakes and his wife, Lynn of Amelia Island, Fla.; four grandchildren, Maggie Oakes, Stephen Oakes, Scott Oakes and his wife, Brandi and Brett Oakes and his wife, Brittany; and one great grandchild, Everly. A graveside service will be held at Highland Burial Park on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at 2 pm with the Reverend Arnold Faw officiating. The family would like to thank the staff of Riverside Health Care and Bright Leaf Place for their care they have given over the years.
