Alexander Van Pelt, 18, of Danville VA passed away on September 8, 2024. Alex was born to Joey and Christie Van Pelt on November 17, 2005, in Danville, VA. Alex was a 2024 graduate of Chatham High School and was attending Mount St. Mary’s University in Maryland.

He is survived by his parents, his grandmother, Lajuana Jordan, his grandfather, Joe Van Pelt (Sharon), his grandfather, Garnie Walker, aunts, Christie Perkins (Michael), Jannelle Halbig (Kevin), Lisa Spicer (Jimmy). Uncles Jonathan Walker (Meredith), Andrew Walker (Megan), his great aunts, Sue Brosnan (Bob), Barbara Newton, and Jane Reynolds (Kenny); and great uncle, Rickey Buck (Beverly). He is also survived by many cousins and other family members and friends whom he loved dearly.

He is predeceased by his adoring grandmother, Liza Walker and his grandfathers Bill Collie and Harold Jordan.

Alex was an amazing young man known for his loving kindness, loving heart, and humorous personality. He was a standout baseball player for Chatham High School. This summer he played for the Sherrill Silversmiths collegiate team out of New York. Alex began his baseball career while playing for Danville City Little League, then on to the VA Reds, River City Redbirds, and the Dirtbags organization.

Alex was attending Mount St. Mary’s University on a baseball scholarship. His passion and love for baseball was unmatched.

Alex was an excellent student and loved volunteering with organizations such as Elite Performance Academy and Chatham Youth League sports. Alex positively influenced so many lives, baseball players, coaches, and teachers.

His life exemplified love, compassion, commitment, and dedication. He engaged others to be the best version of themselves. He encouraged and uplifted the human spirit. When he walked into a room, there were lots of hugs, smiles, and laughter. All who knew and loved him are blessed beyond measure.

“Though the mountains be shaken and the hills removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed, says the Lord, who has compassion on you.” Isaiah 54:10

A celebration of life will be held Saturday September 14, 2024, 1:00 PM at Dan River Church, 2805 Riverside Drive Danville VA 24540. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the church prior to the service. Interment will be held at Danville Memorial Gardens following the celebration of life.
