Alan Clark Adkins, 74, passed away on Friday morning, March 24, 2023 at his home. He was born on June 10, 1948 in Danville, Virginia, the only son of Elbert Clark Adkins and Marion Taylor Adkins.
Alan worked for 32 years at W.W. Moore Juvenile Detention Center. He also worked as a courier for Virginia Bank and Trust. He was a past member at Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, and a current member of New Life Community Church.
He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Talbott Adkins; one son Patrick Daniel Adkins (Henreka) of High Point, North Carolina; one daughter Catherine Adkins Saunders (Joe) of Danville; one step-son Ian Talbott (Claire) of Danville; one step-daughter Marissa Burke (Codie) of Roanoke; and four grandchildren, Jordan Adkins, Skylar Adkins, Joseph Saunders, and Liam Burke.
Alan was predeceased by his parents.
Alan is most well-known by residents all across the city of Danville as the “Running Man.” He was a soldier at heart, as his support of the U.S. military was one of his greatest passions. A lover of the outdoors, he found that God spoke to him most as he basked in the sunlight. As evidenced by his long career at W.W. Moore, he had a huge heart for those in need, especially children. On any given day, you could find Alan at the YMCA, Riverwalk Trail, or Planet Fitness. His family and friends are comforted knowing that Alan is now running through the forever fields of Heaven.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that offerings be given to New Life Community Church.
A funeral will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at Townes Funeral Home at 3:00 pm, with a visitation starting at 2:00pm.
