Who plants a seed beneath the sod, and waits to see, believes in God. Surrounded by his loving family, Acie Billings Brooks, Jr. passed away March 24, 2019 at SOVAH Health in Danville, Va. He was born April 15, 1948 in Danville, to the late Patty Mae Saunders and Acie B Brooks, Sr. He was also predeceased by his Labrador and best friend “Brook”. A.B. graduated from Tunstall High School in 1966 and married Mary Jane Allen on September 2, 1967. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two sons, Acie B. Brooks, III (Wendy) and George Allen Brooks (Katie); four grandchildren, Taylor Paige, Holland Alexandra, Evan Carter, and Landon Allen Brooks; one brother, Ronald Saunders Brooks and wife Brenda; one aunt, Mary Saunders Hyler; and a number of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. A.B. proudly served four years in the United States Air Force from 1968 to 1972. After returning home from military service, he joined the family business of A. B. Brooks and Sons Contractors until his retirement in 2008. He dearly loved his family, enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and always loved working in his garden and sharing his vegetables and fruits with family and friends. The family will receive friends at Townes Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 27, from 7 to 8:30 PM and at other times at the residence, 147 Brook Circle, Danville, Va. A celebration of his life will be held at Fairview United Methodist Church on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at 2 PM. Interment with Full Military Honors presented by the United States Air Force Honor Guard and American Legion Post 1097 Honor Guard will follow at Highland Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Koinonia Class or Friendship Class at Fairview United Methodist Church, 1013 Westover Drive, Danville, VA 24541, American Legion Post 1097, Fairfield Avenue, Danville, VA 24540, or to a charity of your choice.
